Do some sort of design in the pearl clearcoat, then more regular clear over it.
I have seen it done w/ checkerboards or stripes etc.
I always wanted to see a black Viper GTS w/ the stripes done in pearl, so you can only really see them if you are looking for them or catch the light just right.
