? is in the title. Does anyone know how much amperage the starter draws when its starting the motor?
thanks.

Starts at about 150 amps and drops to around 80-90 amps. That's free wheeling.

The load should stay around 100-120 amps when spinning the engine.

Did you know that 0.08-0.10 amps can cause cardiac arrest? GFCI outlets/circuit breakers trip between 0.04-0.06 amps of ground fault current.

I wonder if the 12V car battery has enough "umph" to get those amps through you...

Shutup... I'm bored

See i thought it was amperage that kill people and not volts.
I guess i shouldnt mess with either.

You're right... amps kill ya, but you need the volts to be able to get through the insulator. Like my camera batteries are over 2amp, but only at like 1.2V, which isn't enough to get through your skin. 120V has plenty to go through ya...

Disposable cameras can be turned into low power stun guns.

I used to work in a photolab and all you have to do is break that little flash button on the front and the two posts are exposed. IIRC the power on that cap. is like 180 mF @ 330 V.

Another interesting note: If you slam (say in the palm of your hand) a charged camera the flash will go off. Kinda a fun prank to pull on someone cause they see you smacking this camera then poof their blind but you don't fire the shutter. <= is the face of the people

I know simple sh¡t amazes me

FWIW:

180 microfarads is the capacitance of the capacitor.. not the amperage.. You'd have no way to know the amperage SIMPLY by reading the cap.

that is a 330V cap, that is rated at 180microfarads if resistance.. (like a 1 FARAD cap, in car audio, etc..)

This value determines how fast or slow the cap charges or discharges (how fast it goes through the cycles of charging)

(Of course, this can be affected by the entire circuit, etc, but that is another day..)

Yeah... be careful disassembling disposable cameras. I did it just cause I wanted to mess around with the flash.

I got shocked pretty bad when I accidentally touched the board. Then I started playing around with it and used a key to discharge the capacitor. Makes a REALLY loud spark noise and is cool as hell. Not too long after that we were learning about airfield lighting and you use a shorting stick that's like 5 feet long to discarge the capacitors that operate the flashers. I don't know the farad rating, but I know the lights themselves operate on 2000VDC.

I was working on my old '91 Crown Vic (with a carb'ed 351w) one day, cleaning the contacts on the solenoid. Accidentally wrenched a little too far, using the wrench to contact both terminals of the solenoid, causing the engine to turn over..

That was not a fun feeling, but the nice thing about DC shocks though is that you get thrown away, instead of AC which makes your muscles contract.

.. also, it was just going through my hand, not from one side of my body to the other through my heart or anything like that.
