I was wondering how long I'am supposed to leave the grille and the silver strip in the dip and how do I dispose of the acid once finished?

i would just dump it out in the backyard if i were you...

NOT.

your city should have some sort of hazardous materials place that you can drop it off or have it picked up. or maybe even a garage or auto parts store might take something like that.

if you have an old fence pole or a pole of that type, you could plug one end of it and then put it in that way, but im sure theres a better way.

just look around your house or a neighbors house and see if you can find anything that would suffice.

You dont want to put the black grille and the chrome oval in the acid dip together. You are going to want to separate the two. Its not to difficult. If you turn over the oval you will see aprox 8-10 (iirc) plastic welds that hold the the chrome oval into the main frame of the grill. You want to drill out those welds. Dont nessisarily have to drill a hole where they are but knock just enough of the melted platic off so that the pin that is being weled in comes loose. Do that for each weld and carefully pry the oval away fom the grille.

I just took my grille out of te dip yesturday. It sat for 3 weeks and all the chrome was totally removed.

The best container for this project is to use 2 wallpaper pans. I got mine at Home depot or Lowes (one of those I forget, they both should carry them). Mine were bright orange and mad eof plastic and worked great. What you want to do is put the grille and the acid in one and then put the other tray upside down on top so it forms a dome. Then use duct tape and tape the two together so it seals it alot better. this method worked great for me. make sure you leave it outside though (preferrably somewhere sheltered from the elements) and not near anything metal just incase some fumes escape they can do some damae to nearby metal as well.

That should do it for the entire process. Hope that helps. have any questions PM me.

As far as removal of the acid. lol i dont know, I still have mine sitting outside. I have to find something to do w/ it as well. maybe dump it down the ground hog hole in my back yard . j/k

It takes a little while to do...I heard 2-3 weeks for the acid to completely remove all the chrome off the ring.

Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, this time more intelligently.

Look for an "under the bed" storage container, they're long enough.
Walmart usually has them but in my case they were out of stock. I ended up with a 90 qt. container, taller that what I needed but it works.
Or, try Home Depot/Lowes as mygameisplatnum
suggested.

I want some of your magic acid.
Just put mine in on Monday, think I'll check it tomorrow and see how it's going. I'm sure mine will take the two weeks cuz that's my luck.
