i had a 91 S10 Blazer before i bought my contour at 18. its still our spare car, but has been quite a money pit. in the year and a half i drove it i had to replace all the brakes, the head gasket, door hinges, and thermostat, and spark plug wires. it has high miles (actually hit 200,00 the other day) and is still running decently. we decided to get a blazer because my mom put 265,000 miles on her 89 with her 120 mile daily commute. the biggest repair on that one was a transmission at 180,000. gaskets never even needed to be replaced. she has drive the 4.3 blazers religiously ever since. she's on her 4th a 4.3 and the 2 in between were basically trouble free. watch out for electrical problems however. only one was short free (a 99). the 89 were occasionally activate its own wipers, the 91 would lose all power to the center stack if the cigarette lighter was used, the 97 had a short in the power lumbar and in the alert chime, and the 2002 had a short in the keyless entry about a week after it was delivered. good luck with ur 87.
