That "stop leak" stuff does not work at all. For about a month or two it may stop it, but all those stop leak products do are make the existing shot gasket swell a bit. With 45K on it.. I can beleive you are having this problem. I;d go to the stealership and speak with them... a 2000 with 45K.. that only 9000 miels a year. I bet the dealership would warranty it.. or go 50/50 on it.

Hmmm, maybe but i do have a salvage title so it pretty much sat for 2-3 years. Dont know if that matters. Would i benefit anything by running a heavier weight oil? Would anyone have recommendations?

A hevier weight oil just prolongs the inevitable. Frommy understanging, changing a head gasket on the duratec's isn't very difficult at all. The egnienc an stay in the car. Remove the UIM/LIM and your basically there. Takes minimal tools, minimal money, and about a day.

Edit: the dealership wouldn't know it has a salvage title.
I say just get a few bears, a few CEGer's a few tools, and the right gaskets and git-r-done your self. Great way to get "intouch" with the car.

That's most likely your valve cover gasket.

Fix the leak. Don't use a crutch like heavier oil or stop leak. That will just lead to other more expensive problems.

You must have not seen a break down of the engine.

You have to remove the front cover, oil pan, and then pull off both timing chains in reverse phasing order.

Then of course reversing the entire procedure. (with a few extra steps)

All with next to no space between the engine and the passenger strut tower.

It is not impossible but it is time consuming and a bit of a PITA.

I agree that money-wise the job would not be bad. A few gaskets, new head bolts, sealer, oil, etc. Less then $200 for one side.

Ofcourse pretty much any engine work is best done out.. I'm jsut saying that it *is* possible to be done. 1 Day.. well, maybe 2. Didn't relize about the oil pan having to come off. That's a couple additional hours of work.
