The most important part in choosing a handgun is finding one that you feel comfortable with. Make sure you can pull it up and get a good sight picture without having to bobble around & you can control it after pulling the trigger. Too many people buy a firearm solely on looks, caliber or the recommendations of others only to find out that it is not the one for them. With CNC manufacturing, firearms are more reliable than ever, so you can't go wrong with the Ruger or the other big names- Glock,Smith,Kimber,Taurus,H&K,Sig, Walther,Browning,Para, etc. Try to find a gunshop w/ a range that will let you try a couple different makes and models and go with whatever you feel comfortable with. I am a NRA Certified safety instructor and ex-gunsmith and I always tried to make these recommendations to customers and students.
