IMHO, I prefer SA .45 ACP colt or similar....VERY accurate, especially if you take the time to handload. I have a TZ-75 9MM I recieved for a present from my folks' when I was 13...I think I've put well over 5,000 rounds through it over the years. Oh, and I do carry concealed and PRAY that I never HAVE to use it. I started competitive markmanship when I was 7, and my son started when he was 8....Marksmanship is a skill....You may disagree, but it isn't the easiest thing to do. Like anything else, it take YEARS of practice, especially with an inherently dangerous impliment (hmmm...kinda like a car). If you have the time, money and skill, any handgun will suffice for target "practice".....but, for God's sakes, don't buy something because it's "cool". Get something you can start with that isn't going to make you recoil shy (like a .38 special or 9MM) and work your way up from there. BTW, you can buy a .357 Magnum and shoot .38 specials (which "kick" about as much as a 9MM)- when you're ready, move up to the .357's. Just my .02....

BTW, those kids that shot up the school?? Where were their parents?? It seems that everyone is quick to blame anything except for what made kids like that in the first place.....

My Brother now has a pair of Kimber .45s along with an HK, Sig, and a pair of no-name brands he had gold plated to look like the guns on "Face Off"..you could say he has a .45 fascintation.

I take a liking to Wilson Combat myself, but Kimber is on par if not better for the price. Expect to pay $800-900 for the bargain-basement models and up to $2-3K for higher-end/comp'd models.

I know a fellow that does gun-smithing and he's of the mind that Kimber is the best off-the-shelf 1911 out there today (for the money).

These are both top-shelf manufacturers so price shouldn't be a kicker. There are other more affordable 1911 frame .45s out there; someone mentioned Springfield Armory (SA) for starters. I've shot a few and have no complaints.

Para-Ordnance makes nice 1911s, too.

Yeah they do. Kimber are amazing, though.

When I bought my Kimber Compact Custom 7 years ago, I looked at Para-Ordinace as well. But the Kimber was much nicer at not much higher price. It was around $800 and shoots great for a Commander-sized .45 ACP.
