Crash tests aren't the only thing, you also have to get DOT approved headlamps, sidemarkers and taillamps, none of which exist for the Mondeo, a MPH speedometer, which you'd have to get from the UK, and the biggie, EPA OBD-2 certification with OBD-2 diagnostics, something ELSE that doesn't exist.

The X-type would be too different to qualify. Ford will never bother to ever re-certify the Mondeo, the market simply does not exist for this car.
