When she has a flare-up she can hardly get out of bed (I usually take her to the hospital then, my family does that now) let alone work. When she is not on a flare-up she needs blood transfusions because her red blood count drops dangerously low. She needs transfusions every 3-4 months. Now here is the f'ed up thing, every month she has to prove to the State that she still has no money, still has no job, still is disabled. The problem with the system is that there are able bodied people who go to the same office as my mom who are just given money because they have kids. I can't stand that we just give out money to parents just because they have kids. There are people like my Mother who are really in need of aid and they have to fight tooth and nail for it. She has even proven in a court of law that she is disabled yet the State still makes her prove it. So don't give me "it's only lazy people who get 'your' tax dollars."
BTW The private health insurance companies will not cover my mom, there are too many pre-existing conditions. Also my father is the one who stayed home when I was born, my Mother was a secretary making more money than my father.
Solution: abolish all social assistance. That way, your mother doesn't have to go through all the hassle of proving she's disabled every time she needs more aid, and she won't have to fight 'tooth and nail' for it.
I have nothing against you or your mother, but I think you're seeing why people like me think government assistance is a bad thing: it creates a class of people dependent on it. I wonder how people got by before the govermnent paid them to.
