Okay, so you need to loosen the bolt, and then get the ball joint back on? I don't understand what you mean by "the proper one". It is a Torx bolt, with a nut (you said 17mm) on the other side. You need a Torx bit, maybe a 30 or 40, I'm not sure, and a socket for the nut.
