I've had my 96 Zetec automatic for about 3 weeks. Done 2 tanks worth of gas. Fist one 22mpg. That was pre head gasket and timing belt job. Last tank, after head gasket and TB, 24.5 mpg. I still have the CEL on and had Autozone scan it today. Said the second O2 sensor showing lean. I'm guessing that might mean I'm burning richer than it should be, if the sensor is shot. My new plugs also appeared a bit blacker/sootier than I thought they should have been. Will be replacing the O2 sensor soon and hoping to get closer to the 30mpg mark. OH, that is with mixed city and hyway driving.

I'd say on average of ALL of the Contiques I've had, with the automatic Zetecs I average 28MPG, manual Zetec 35MPG, automatic Duratec 25MPG and manual Duratec 30MPG. That's Highway mileage. Mind you over the years I've had over 30 of them. No I'm not a fanatic, I rebuild 'em, drive 'em then sell 'em. I alwasy say "stick with what you know".

I am getting 30-31 mpg on 50% hwy and 50% in-town driving. That is tracking over the last 3 tanks of Mobil middle grade, with Lucas additive. That is with KKM intake, SHO-y pipe, SVT exhaust w/ mag resonator. This is an increase of 8 mpg from the stock car I started with. Nice suprise!

Undersized yes, but not too bad. Just drive it right and gas mileage is a good bit better than a duratec. Great thing with a zetec is on the highway, its best gas mileage is at 80-90.
The funny thing is, hes right. When I drove from midland to detroit for a meet, I filled up right to the top before i left, got down to detroit and I had used ALMOST a half of a tank of gas and put 170 miles on it. It was great.
