Idle is not adjustable. computer controlled at 0750. low idle could be anoter seperate problem and flickering lights would be caused by a low idle since your alternator is not rotating as fast as it needs to be.

Idling at 500 rpms are low. Try cleaning your IAC valve.

I will clean the IAC valve out with some carb cleaner and work some carb cleaner into the TB and butterfly. Hmm..didn't know they didn't have an idle screw on contours..guess I am to used to fixing my stang problems. Also, i was checking on the corral (stang form) and they mentioned that the wiring under the battery tray tends to corrode.

"There is a Recall/TSB on Contours where all the wiring under the hood is subjected to fraying and cracking open. Did you ever check the history of the car to see if has been checked yet?? Sorry, I dont have anymore specific info on it, but when I worked at Ford, I did quite a few of these checks. Talk to a service writer at Ford, could be another TSB. Good Luck"

There is a recall for the wiring harness becoming brittle..

10/100 I believe.. if either is exceded then you are screwed.

(well, you have to pay for it..)

(oh.. p.s.. if you find the word "the" instead of "they" in here (or something equally as unimportant), feel free to add another post to your count just to let the world know.. I am sure everyone will appreciate it.)

I am not one that is a post whore, my post count is low for as long as I have been on the boards, I may not post that much but I am am here every night reading. I have just been around from some of the earliest days and have seen questions answered by people without any admonition. I wasn't ranting at you, specificaly, as much as I was ranting at those, in general, that act arrogantly and want to try to control the boards by telling people where to go to get the answer to their question or that what they posted is a repost. Ray, nothing against you at all.
