Who said anything about standing over their shoulder? Not me. However, if the painter has some problem with me stopping by to check on progress maybe once or twice, the he can walk. Seriously, there's a dozen others who would gladly take their place.
I have had my car painted at a few places over the years, and nobody's given me a problem with my requests.
And as far as cost, when it comes to getting it done right/the way i want it, then if it costs more - so be it.

ok so now your telling me that you would choose a painter let him prep your car their way ,then you stop by and tell him how to prep your car while he is in the middle of the work...ok...that's like someone coming in to your job who has never done your job before then telling you how to do things, but that would be ok with you i guess...
stopping by and checking progress is one thing, but stopping by to check progress and then telling them what to do is another...when you choose a painter you choose them on how good they are at what they do,or you wouldn't choose them in the first place....painters are weird and do things they way they do things...if they have been painting for awhile then they have their own way of doing things and that's how they work...sure you are the customer, but you wouldn't choose someone to paint if they didn't do good work, the thing is they do their good work the way they do it...sure they may say ok when you tell them to do it a certain way,but ultimately they will still do it their way when you are not there.....

yea and a custom painter is way more weird and they have some far out ideas on things. you should see some of the things my painter has in his shop to get the paint affect that he wants.
also the thing to remember is that you see there work first and that you know you are getting what you want and if you want things removed that they might not normaley take off then i am sure they will sure for a price or why they thing they should stay on or like i have done is take things off and prep them off the car and then put them back on before the paint work is done.
see i do all my own body work and i bring in my cars all primed and ready to go and i do this for a few reasons. 1. i know how it has been preped 2. saves me a ton of money 3. because i know how to do it and i enjoy it
just remember you can take off everything and just because it gets taken off doesn't mean that it is preped better, trust me i have had it done to me in the past and had problems with a different shop before. and all they told me was you can never get paint to stick the bumper right... what a bunch of BS that is...

You know...I was wanting to mention that it looked like there was no clear on it when I first saw the pics, but the rude way people were stating their opinions, I didn't post. These guys need to take that into consideration when looking at the above pics...w/o clear, paint looks like crap.
I think I understand...you are doing a favor for your bro-n-law, not creating a trailer-queen for the show circuit. If you haven't even seen it since the clear, you'll be in for a surprise. Any chance of getting more pics?

Are you out of your mind?? Prep work (removing said hardware and painting it off the car) is something that would be discussed BEFORE i gave my car to the painter. If he has any problem with my requests during our discussion then the car will be taken elsewhere. Stop putting words in my mouth. Nowhere did I say what is quoted above, that's your own conclusion. I suppose I should have specified, but i thought common sense would dictate these things would be discussed beforehand. I guess I was wrong.
Enough of this...
MSNAPP, I am sorry if i have insulted you or your car, it really does look good. Please post finished pics soon.
