Hi Guys,
On my MY2000 V6 Mercury, at 65,000 miles, I'm just starting my 3rd set of front pads but the original rear drum brakes show almost no wear. Is that normal?

yeah, you are fine. The rear brakes do very little on a front heavy car, and the rear brakes will wear significantly slower than the fronts.

Not necessarily true for the all disc cars. I think it's over-biased to the rear for stability, or something, but it seems common (and it happened to me) that the rears wore out well ahead of the fronts.

Drums may be different. Could be that the master cylinder is biased for the disc/drum setup, and not changed at all for the 4-disc? Just guessing, here.

No, it's over-biased to the front for stability. if your rears wear out first something is probably wrong.

I got 160,000Km and 10 years out of the factory original rear discs/pads on my 96 Contour. Having said that, they should have been changed much sooner .

A friend of mine brought his Accord to the dealership recently for an oil change, and they told him his rear pads were bad. His car has 25K miles and the fronts were fine.

That's what you get for going to a dealer...
