Hello, I am kinda new to this so I am not sure how to do this so here goes. I have a 1995 Ford Contour Feb build 2.5 Liter V6 24 valve, Automatic transmission. Which I just bought yesterday. Anyway, I start it up and drive it for about 2 minutes and it seems to disengage the tranny ( and it get progressivly worse as I drive it for the two minutes)and just sit and rev. Does not want to go into gear. I sit and hit the gas but the car just won't go. I checked the tranny fluid and it seems to be a little over filled. Any ideas what may cause this. The car is now not drivable. I seem to have to shut it off let it cool then I can drive it for another two minutes. Also while this is happening the car makes a high pitched whining sound but goes away after I let it cool off too. One more thing on this, the fluid seems to be darker than it should be, not red in color. Almost looks like motor oil?

take it back to the place you bought it from and tell them to give you your EFFIN money back!

Unfortunatley I bought it from a private owner. And lets just say he is not being cooporative. Any assitance in troubleshooting will be helpful.

If I was to guess, I would say that this is the torque converter overheating. If the fluid is black, engine oil in color, then it sounds like it's burned. If you made a bill of sale that you both signed, you may have a case in the small claims court, otherwise, hit a trany shop. Sorry I have nothing good to tell ya about this. I replaced my trany in my 98 Misty with a junk yard one for about $900. Was worth the money since I paid $600 for the car.

Private seller, or not.. you have methods of returning the car, if he sold it fraudulently.

Makes me wonder too... did you not test drive the car before you bought it?

Yep, sure did. And it seemed to be running just fine, I drove it for about 10 min. And then my wife drove the car, she also throught it was fine. To our suprise after I paid for the car and only 67 miles later this happened. I tried calling this guy and he basically told me too bad. So now I am stuck. So any throught of what I may look for to help me solve this delimia would be greatly appreciated.

You are not stuck...There are laws that protect a seller from doing this to a buyer. You need to start searching for the laws on this.

Also, if you have to have tranny work done, keep all receipts, and then take the guy to small claims court and get your money back. Until you've had a financial loss there is nothing you can claim against him.

Except for fraudulent sales!!??

He IS at a financial loss.. he purchased the car under false pretenses.
