I think racing stripes, when done right, can add alot to a vehicle's esthetics. WHEN DONE RIGHT is the key phrase. The offset-blaze-yellow stripes are ugly on any car. The stripes on the Viper GT-S are sweet. For our car, I think if you keep the stripe color in the same ballpark as the paint color and try to follow the curves of the car somewhat ie:not just 2 straight stripes, you'd be in business. For example: charcoal or denim-blue colored stripes on silver, "dark" silver on dark blue, a conservative gold on dark green... no yellows, whites, etc!! Red should be left alone, except maybe for some light pinstriping. The color usually speaks for itself. My .02$, obviously!

I just put 8" white stripes with a 3" gap on my red 2000 SVT, and I think it really brought the car to life. Sleepers are great, but a bit of attention every now and then isn't bad (as long as it's not from the police.) Here are a couple of photos.

Let me know what you think. Just in case you want to know. The stripes are vinyl from a sign shop (fastsigns). They cut the vinyl do 8" strips. Cost me $75 total and a couple of hours of time.

Journie

I plan on extending them down the back bumper, I just ran out of time with Xmas and everything else. The hardest part of the whole job, was marking the center line of the car. Once you have the center marked with a greese pencil, mark a line 1.5" to each side of center, assuming you want a 3" gap. Spray the area with a mist of water, and spray the stickie side of the vinyl. Lay the vinyl down on the car and slide it into position. If you dont like it's position, just lift it back up. Once it's in the position you want, use a squeegie covered in a soft cloth to remove the water from between the paint and vinyl.

Something else to remember, is that the stripes are not permanent. A hair dryer and a hours time and no more stripes. That was the main selling point for me, since I was not sure I would like them.

Also, I used 8" wide stripes with a 3" gap. If I could do it over again, I think I would go with a 9" wide stripe and keep the 3" gap.

Thanks for the pointers on the pictures!

Those stripes look awesome. Why didn't you continue them down the back and front bumpers? Were you concerned with road grime, or just too lazy (kidding) I put a black pinstripe down the sides of my green tour (All the way from the taillight to the headlight, I even pinstriped the huge metal area behind the rear doors) It looks really good. I want to paint a 4' stripe across the top of my car but, being a chicken$#!+ I won't do it until I know what it looks like.

I thought about two blue stripes on my mystique, distanced so that the stripe would sort of run across the front seats to correspond with the contrasting leather colors of the Young America package seats. If you dont know what I'm talking about here's a pic http://www.geocities.com/topgunz_1/car4.jpg dont worry about posting it on here since its kinda large I dont want to mess up anyone.
