I've heard that the photos are months old. There is a underwater tunnel in Norfolk, VA. Looking at the traffic from the Naval base, it looks just like the cars are disappearing into the water.

Most are several years old.
In the DFW area everything I've seen puts those images as circa 2001-2002.

Just something to note, the US Capital building in D.C. is blured/pixelated intentionally on Google Maps.
And the roof of the white house is smoothed over so you can't see detail.
Yep, I was gonna point that out myself. The feds are more on the ball for dealing with potentially sensitive imagery than it would seem...I really would be surprised if the Google staff didn't get input from the govt on what could or couldn't be displayed.

You think that is sweet?
This is a shot of Downtown San Diego, California. that is a rather large 5 story mall there at 1st AVE (large orange square..) Its an open-air mall, and all stores have their entrances open in to the outside air..
This is YOUR view: (CLICK FOR FULL SCREEN)

Now... this is my view. (click for full screen)

You can see that I have zoomed in significantly more so than your image, and I can see two white trashcans on either of those stairways up.. (This is located about 3/4 of the way up (NE) the "alleyway" looking layout of the mall..
Another view.. this is taken in the half-circle cutout on the west edge of the mall (its the food court, on the top floor) As you can see.. your view doesn't show the McDonalds, there.

and one more, of a few of the cars on the rooftop garage (parking rates there SUCK, trust me!!!)

Hit me up on AIM

if you want to talk more about it, and how to do it..

The ones on Terraserver of this base are from 7/8/1995. Shows planes on the runway and a ton of old buildings that aren't here any more. The runway here has been closed since 1998 or so and left unmaintained. The cops and fire fighters race up and down it during exercises.
If you go to Terraserver and view Clinton, IA... near the river is a border of pics from 5/19/1994 and 3/31/2000. Shows one big area where they tore down some slums and built a Hyvee there... shows half houses and roads that end at half of a grocery store... Was gonna post the pic, but my ISP's webspace is messed up I guess.
