We don't need to see this stuff. There are too many places that can be seen which do not need to be seen on there.
If the government didn't want them seen they wouldn't be seen. Any satelite imagery that is public domain has been carefully scrutinized by the government. You'll notice that throughout sattelite imagery there are big blocks cut out or areas covered over with large cicles where many military installations are.
...or not detailed enough to be able to make anything out... like the restricted areas here.
So your saying it's ok to give anyone an arial view of our military bases?
If the government didn't think so they wouldn't allow the imagery to be public domain.
Unfortunatly these photos fall under the first ammendment. It should be google's responsibility to remove them.
Again, as I said, the government wouldn't make the images public domain if it didn't want them to be. Yes, the government decides what will be allowed to be photographed.
Not just anyone can put a satellite into orbit and distribute the photographs -- not in this country anyways. Every country that has the capability of putting satellites into orbit has similar policies/laws/executive orders.
Only a select few companies have authorization to put imagery sattelites into orbit and they are dictated where and what resolution they are allowed to take images from called "shutter restrictions". The restrictions extend outside of the US as well. US companies aren't allowed to sell good imagery from Israel or many other allies either, for example. These policies are generally reciprocated -- we won't allow our companies to image Israel and they won't allow their companies to image us.
You have no idea what you are talking about.

Any idiot can say someone is wrong. It takes intelligence to prove it.
And just to save you the trouble, here's a few key items you'll want to look at in your attempt to gain knowledge of the subject that you know so little about:
Clinton's PDD-23 (this is the main one)
The Land Remote Sensing Policy Act
Bush's National Security Presidential Directive
National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency
Just googling PDD-23 should tell you all that you need to know on the subject before spouting off about it.

So, in light of the topic, would this be:

Heh... yeah, did that on purpose
Uh, I don't see anything... Just a red 'x' again. Yeah, that's it, I don't see a thing.
by the way, looks like a photoshop to me. You can still see some of the contours of the terrain under the supposed 'airstrip'.
scroll due north & see the ground zero setup they got. Huge concentric rings in a dry lake bed.
to the SW of the lake bed at the interface with the foothills is a big crater - former underground test site perhaps?
Enjoy.
Must be that jumbly-wumbly thing happening again.

Maybe you're right... If it's an old test site, maybe it's an unmaintained airstrip they either forgot about or don't care to mention.
I wonder what they do if it's unmaintained. Like the runway here hasn't been maintained since the mid 90s. Yep... I'm at an Air Force base without any planes
