If the government didn't want them seen they wouldn't be seen. Any satelite imagery that is public domain has been carefully scrutinized by the government. You'll notice that throughout sattelite imagery there are big blocks cut out or areas covered over with large cicles where many military installations are.

Originally posted by sigma: Just a guess but it looks like some sort of target practice area. It looks very primitive with a lot of earthenworks everywhere. The aircraft looks like an older design. There are no noticeable marks on the ground to indicate aircraft have landed there (although, supposedly the 'aircraft' there don't "land" conventially). And there are a LOT of bomb craters very nearby but nowhere else in the surrounding area.
I agree. I almost would guess that the jet there is an old F-84 from the wing sweep, but there's not really enough detail for any kind of confirmation. Groom Lake is known for being a test and practice facility for captured enemy aircraft like MiGs and so forth, too.

If the government didn't think so they wouldn't allow the imagery to be public domain.

Unfortunatly these photos fall under the first ammendment. It should be google's responsibility to remove them.

Again, as I said, the government wouldn't make the images public domain if it didn't want them to be. Yes, the government decides what will be allowed to be photographed.
Not just anyone can put a satellite into orbit and distribute the photographs -- not in this country anyways. Every country that has the capability of putting satellites into orbit has similar policies/laws/executive orders.
Only a select few companies have authorization to put imagery sattelites into orbit and they are dictated where and what resolution they are allowed to take images from called "shutter restrictions". The restrictions extend outside of the US as well. US companies aren't allowed to sell good imagery from Israel or many other allies either, for example. These policies are generally reciprocated -- we won't allow our companies to image Israel and they won't allow their companies to image us.

Heh... yeah, did that on purpose
See how the link in the last post doesn't have much detail... that's how the stuff is here (besides the base, but we don't have a flying mission anyway). And whatever that white is... looks like a lot of reflected light, or they just turned the brightness of that section WAY up (you can still see a little bit of stuff in there).
