I was so close to cutting up the center console so I could mount it facing up to have easy access to the harddrive, but decided against it once I got it all out and realized all the cutting necessary and that it still may not fit with the depth of the unit. I don't see how vibrations could effect it that much seeing as it's a harddrive. If it's vibrating enough to make it skip then I would think that there it could easily damage the drive since that would cause the heads to bounce against the platters.

As for the wireless networking, the reason is all behind the fact that I don't want to change from wpa to wep security. The home unit can't see simplecenter and vise versa even when plugged into the network directly. Honestly, I pretty much gave up on it for a while and figure I'll go back to it later on.
