The a/c has nothing to do with the engine coolant.

If you're loosing coolant.... check all of your spark plugs. If you have coolant leaking in to the combustion chamber that spark plug is usually cleaner than the rest. Make sure you don't have the milky color to your oil dipstick (indicating coolant in the oil). Also take notice if there is white smoke coming from the exhaust AFTER the car is warmed up. Those are tell tale signs of head gsket trouble.

What is troubling me is with a bad head gasket you would usually get the bubbles while the car is running and only for a few seconds after the car is turned off. But if you're loosing coolant it has to be going some where, right? So another thing to consider is a loose or leaking hose, leaking heater core(check for a sweet smell coming from the vents and/or damp passenger floor). A pin hole leak in a hose will cause bubbles after the car is turned off.

If all of the advice you're getting is inconclusive, have the coolant system pressure checked.
