I had a mechanic look at it briefly and he said that there might be a leak in a hose. He said that he doesn't feel pressure in one of the hoses. He told that the cooling fans run. I had replaced my radiator cap with one at a junkyard, but then I decided to get a brand new one today for $8 dollars. I am gonna get the car pressure tested on Monday or Tuesday to see if there's a leak. Then I'm gonna do a full coolant flush.

I would try getting a new overflow tank cap, flush and fill of the system, and repalcing the thermo. If you do that all yourself, it would only be about $20.

I'm definetly gonna do a flush. If I decide to replace the thermostat, how much would it be to buy one at an auto parts store?

I just flushed mine last week and replaced the t-stat & gasket. T-stat was $8 & I think the gasket was $4. You want to replace the gasket whenever you replace the thermostat simply as a peace of mind thing. Ho yea, and you might want to use a 180 degree t-stat instead of the 192. Doesn't make a difference other than just a tad bit more power that you prolly won't even notice. And it doesn't change the price either...

I guess I can do that too. When I order the t-stat and the gasket at auto store, how do I specificly tell them what the part is called. I don't wanna confuse them or get the wrong part.

They'll ask you for what kind of car (make, model) & engine (2.0 Zetec I4). Just remember to ask for the 180 t-stay. They won't give you the wrong part. If you're nervous about getting the wrong parts, just post the part #s in this thread and somebody will tell you if they're the right ones or not... And since it seems that you're really going to do this, do you know how to do it?

I will probably take it to a shop and get it done and do the flush also.

I replaced the t-stat with a new 180 degree one and I did a coolant flush. That totally made the problem go away. I used Prestone 50/50 premixed coolant. I followed your ideas on this problem and it worked. Thanks!

I'm glad to read that your problem is resolved!!! It's nice when someone posts that their problem was fixed with the aid of CEG advice. Most of the time the post just goes dead with out any word one way or the other. It also helps those of us that search the archives.
