...and more pronounced with aftermarket wheels, esp with low-pro tires. The increased width and change in offset specs...the distance between the steering axis and the center of the contact patch is probably longer than it was with stock wheels (see "scrub radius"). This affects steering effort, stability, feel, etc.

Did you have it aligned, recently? Problems that were masked by your stock wheel/tire setup may have come to light with your new setup.
