If you have the dealer installed Ford keyless entry/security system, it may be a sign that the keyfob battery is going. I had one do the same thing on me. At first once in a while, but it did get more frequent. I changed the battery ($1.50 for two)and that fixed the problem. I had a similar problem with an aftermarket remote start system that started the car on it's own while I was no place near it! The key fob battery was teh issue with that one also.

yep i learned the hard way trying to take my g/f to work one morning...started my se to warm it up while squeegeing (wtf?) the window...when i closed the door i heard locks activate...we got my g/f's mother to come over so we could use her auto club to come out...it took them so long to get there that we started looking around for anything to try to open the door...thankfully my driver window was down just a bit and i found some piece of bendable metal tubing and was able to just hit the driver window button express down...that took an hr and the tow company still hadn't showed up...
i learned to always let the window down when getting out with the key in and to carry my spare in my wallet
stupid locks

So yeah... I'd go with what some other people are saying, but do it like this:
Go to a key place, get an ignition blank from an older (70s/80s) Ford product cut to your key. Even though you can't start the car with it (if ya have PATS), you can still get in... plus it fits in your wallet. If you don't have PATS, then you always have a key on you.

You should be able to idle your car for as long as you have gas. I've never heard of anything bad, maybe cooling is better while moving, but that is what the fans are for. The only part that might do some harm is the transmission. This normally is not an issue unless your car runs 24/7 like a cop car. Really if there was a problem there would be a TPS report about Ford cars and 4 hour idles doing harm. Then there would be a kit on Ebay with a fan and resistors that makes your car idle longer..lol Hmmmmm....$$$

what do you want from me? When i drive the car i spend alot of time in it. The stereo will drain the battery in ~30 minutes with the car off. So my options are A) install a second battery, B) carry around one of those portable jump starters and look like a retard jumping the car all the time, or C) leave it running. Hmm...
What the hell am i explaining myself to you for anyway? Don't buy a car from me.

I concur with the magnetic key holder idea, my UNGO by Clarion alarm system has an automatic lock once moderate vibration is felt in the car (alarm assumes car is moving and locks the doors for safety)
Well I have had this happen to me 2 times, but I had my key hidden up....wait....In my venus fly trap.....and I was able to get in it.

Left mine idling at a Dodge dealership once for 3 hours (of all the gin joints... ). It wouldn't have been bad except for the defroster on full blast and the wipers going. Needless to say I got to test-drive the Dodge 2500 Cummins that my father was going to buy... i drove home and got the keys. Ever since then I've kept the spare key in my pocket. I always drive around with both... just in case.
