Well, if we're talking about child molestation, we have two types: fixated and regressed. A fixated child molester needs/wants to be in a position where he has relatively easy access to children. This is because victims cannot be reused due to maturing out of the desired age range. Also, the fixated molester needs to appear safe, stable, and trustable. Therefore, a good job and volunteer activities with children make sense. True, becoming a priest makes access easier. However, becoming a priest is more difficult than becoming a boy's soccer coach or a Boy Scout leader.

This is just speculation, but I would think that some priests made of mistake of getting into a line of work that they are not cut out for. I'm talking about the vow of celibacy. Not everyone can do this. And if one is frustrated and prevented from relations with adult females, covert trysts with kids may be last resort. In other words, it may well be regressed child molesting.
