Good News, I guess.

I took my car in today and was told it was my cat, not pre cats. They need to order the parts.

Is the main cat before the Y pipe?

Anyways, no charge today or next visit when I get new cat...

The single, main cat is AFTER both pre-cats and AFTER the downstream O2 sensors. It is impossible for the main cat to trigger the P0420 code. Unless the dealership technician found additionals faults that lead him to that diagnosis, there is nothing that you have said that would indicate a main cat failure.

If they are replacing the main cat due to the P0420 code, their diagnosis is faulty.

I would assume they tested the temp of pre cats, and main cat.

Anyone have a diagram or picture showing all the cats?

Ummm... rear bank, lower O2 sensor???

Bueller?

If the lower O2 sensor goes bad, then yes, it will report that the cat is not effecient.

99SESPORT's was exhibiting the same code, and the O2 sensor replacement fixed it.

Never heard of too many main cat failures.

Here's some ok pics of manifolds & Y pipe with cat. If it is the main cat get an aftermarket y-pipe. Plenty around for sale.
