Well, 50 miles later, the CEL is off. I took the dpfe off, shook it on my hand, and had a little bit of water come out (only a few small drops), left it out in the sun for an hour, and put it back on. Full diagnostic states that the dpfe is fully operational (downstream and upstream, or the reference and pressure lines). As for the pinging, I haven't had that, yet...but it does seem to get bogged down every once in a while. Then again, it may be just because I short shift now and then. The car idles much more smoothly now and seems to be more responsive. The O2 sensors are the same (.03-.9 volts), but the downstream switches much slower than the upstreams now. I came to the conclusion that they were switching at the same rate since the engine was in such a rich condition (short term fuel was at 25%!!!) to compensate for the so called lean condition.
I'll wait a few more days and report back, CEL or not. Thanks for all the help guys (and those on the Windstar forum) and hopefully this will help some of you out as well!

Whoops. Just found out I put the wrong link up above.

This is the right one.

100 miles, and still no light. Just need to pass all the readiness tests, and on to emissions!

Thanks, Sean. I'll be pulling mine tomorrow. I'm overdue for smog test and DMV renewal. Whoopee!

OK, removed the DPFE. Bone dry! Is there a diagnostic on this unit to determine if it is defective?
Will spraying TB cleaner into it do any good or will that cause damage?

I don't think spraying any type of cleaner is good for it. I would, like the Windstar forum says, to spray the compressed air into it. Solvents or cleaners may damage it further. I'm sure somewhere there are values for it (I do believe it to be a variable resistor), and I got something like 60 ohms across the board. I should have written down the specific values. I'll take a look around and see if I can find anything. Too bad that wasn't the case!

Hi all,

I am having the P0171&P0174 issue for about 3 months now, and I have been following the same troubleshooting that y'all are doing. (Haven't tried temporarily plugging my EGR hose yet like that windstar forum suggested, but will give that a try soon) My question is, will having a superchip installed make a difference in all of this troubleshooting?

I know it remaps the fuel/air curve but I just don't know if it would make it harder to find a problem dealing with the whole 'car running lean' condition. Also, do any of you guys have a pending code of P0430? Mine just kicked that up yesterday... I'll get back to y'all if I can figure anything out with my codes.
