the ding comes from the lock-tumbler not fully "popping" out when you remove your keys... i read this from someone on this board about 6 months ago because I had the same question
SO... when you get out of your car next time and take the keys out and you still hear the "ding, ding, ding" and your lights are off, just push on the ignition tumbler (where you put the ignition key) and it should pop back out and the "DING" goes away
