I did some searching but I would like to know if anyone has some newer more up to date tips for removing tint. I have to remove my 2 fronts due to a police work order. I want to do it myself to save $ if i can. How hard is this to do? Do you recomend a DIY or take it to a professional. I hear the sides are alot easier than the rear window. Anyway do you go about doing it w/ the window all the way up, window taken out of the door, some other method etc.? Hopefully it can be done w/ the window in the door b/c taking it out would be a PITA. Any and all help such as tips, tools, materials needed, etc. in this matter is apreciated.

Thank you

When i pulled mine i just rolled down the window about an inch and grabbed a corner and VERY slowly started to peel it away. I got the drivers side in one piece but the passenger was 2 or 3. After that just use some rubbing alcohol or Goo-Gone and start scrubbing.

The tint I used at a local tinting shop, just peeled the tint away, leaving NO residue at all. Not even sticky [censored] all over the windows...guess it just depends on what quality tint you have on your windows.

I found some "Automotive Adhesive Remover Wipes" at Wal-Mart for a couple bucks, and they took the residue left by the tint right off.

Is this right after somebody screwed up or when it had been baking in the sun for almost 3 years?

I think you looked in to this, already, but what about two clean side glasses to swap for the time being?

Ya i did look ino that but the closest "u--pull" (cheapest I can get windows for $11.00) Is near the middle of PA and Im from PGH, so it would prob cost me $40 in gas to get there then $40 back plus the windows at $20 for both. Thats aprox $100+ when its all said and done. I figure if I pull the tint off myself I can always get the front two tinted again for cheaper than $100. Also its mirror tint so even when I move to MD next month, your allowed darker (35% all the way around) but no mirror. So its prob only a matter of time before I'd have to take ALL of it off. All things considered I thought just removing the tint from the front two would be the easiest/cheapest.

If you roll down the window say like an inch and start peeling it, what happens to the tint thats behind the side weather stripping and the tint that goes past the weatherstripping at the bottom of the window. i.e the tint goes past the visable part of the window when your looking at the window from inside the car.

I also heard to spray the window w/ amonia or amonia based cleaner and press a plastic bag up against the tint to seal in the amonia and then let that sit for about an hour in the sun and then peel if off...The amonia is suposed to help soften/losen the glue.

Any other ideas/hints/tips/supllies etc. is welcome. Its day #3 of my alloted 10 days to get the tint off. Im so over this. Im going to have to start soon

If you go to your magistrate, you might be able to get the fix it window extended. iirc mine was ten days to start with.

The last time I got a window tint ticket in my car, I went to the junkyard and got 2 front windows out of a wrecked tour for like 40 bucks.....I took my tinted windows out and put the junkyard windows in and got my fix it ticket taken care of... I went home and put my tinted windows back in.....sounds like a lot of work, but tinted windows are worth it to me.....and the next time i get a tint ticket ill do the same thing again
