This was taken out of the June issue of 5.0 Mustang. A Q&A session with SVT's ex, John Coletti.
Q-In the cars you brought to market, what could have been done better? Are there some of those you wished had come out a little differently?
A- Well, a couple of the cars I felt didn't get a fair shake, or didnt get the recognition they should have, for reasons beyond our control. The Contour. We wanted to get into, first off, front-wheel drive; we already had a game plan, we were going to introduce the car and continue to develop it. I could have envisioned intially maybe a low boost V-6, turbo. You know, crank that baby up. Because the car had great mechanicals, and I dont know if you know that - very, very capable mechanicals. Well what happened, before we could get the car into full swing, the entire car-line was pulled. In other words, Ford canceled the car, which made working on it impossible. Because I think, having what I call - I hate to use the word executive express because everyone uses that now - a nice sports sedan, is something in the performance world that plays well. You take an M3, right? You can envision the Contour evolving into an M3-kind of a car, ok?
Wow...too bad. Imagine if Ford kept the contour around a few more years. What could have been?
