Are after market OEM replacement headlights and grilles as good as the original? I need a pair of headlights and a grille for my mystique 98 , and was shocked at the dealer prices.. even the sales person was shocked.
wanna hear it?
$330 Can. for headlights each and $240 Can.for the Grille!!!
I remember I afew years ago I was looking for the Contour Grille and it was around 70 bucks!! for gods sake the SVT was 90 $ only!
If anyone can has experience with aftermarket ones that are around on places like ebay let me know. Are they worth the money or not. I Checked Bill Jenkins site signaturelm but it still turns out to pricey if I need to ship to Canada.
Thanks

I don't think they are....however, you'll see tons of places advertise as "OEM style" or "OEM Like". Supposedly they are manufactured to the same 'quality' as OEM, but I don't think they really are as tightly quality controlled if you will. IMO, spend the extra $$ and get actual OEM headlights..unless you plan on selling the car soon.

Having seen one of the OEM-like headlight units on a Contour I concur you should get one from the dealer. Bill Jenkins has them at a fairly reasonable price IIRC.

After my accident in Feb of 2004, my headlights were replaced with aftermarket lights.
They suck ass. They won't stay adjusted, the level in one of them is 100% bubble, and the lighting at night is worse than the stock headlights.

Kal - give this guy a call: http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/showthread.php?t=141836I bought a pair of OEM Ford lights from him for $90 each. EXCELLENT customer service and very fast shipping too! They are a Ford parts depot and the prices are incredibly low. HTH

Hope this helps somebody. The OEM is better but they all start to fade eventualy. I found a trick I'll post for you. These are plastic and look like there is a clear coat that is flakeing just like car paint does. So I bought a used faded one to experament with. I wet sanded with 1500 and soapy water several times till you can feel no edges where fadaing is. I used a DA with foam pad and machine polish to buff several times. Then used Blue Magic plastic & plexi cleaner and soft rag and hand polished. End result almost new!!! There is still some fade below the surface caused by heat, not much you can do about that. $120.bucks or couple hours on saterday???
If it ain't broke, Don't Fix It!!!

I wet sanded mine and used only turtle wax. You can buy the grille from signaturelm.com There is also an emblem you can buy. I paid for the emblem and got 2 of them. I guess the grille already comes with one?
