How much is that per gallon?

Oh, someone from Canada might know this one, but do they calculate the octane the same as they do here? Cause I got 91 up there over the weekend, but it didn't list the method used [(R+M)/2]. Plus it was expensive... paid $0.96CAD/Liter which I calculated out to be $2.99USD/Gallon... dang, I'm used to paying like $2.40/gal around here.

Yes it is R+M/2 it should have been listed somewhere on the pump.
And we have taxes to thank for the much higher cost of gas here.

Unfortunatelly i do not have SVT but 1998 Duratec V6 2.5

I had heard before on here that using the higher octane on engines not designed for it actually reduces your fuel economy and engine performance ... anyone wish to confirm/elaborate?

I've heard the same thing as you, I learned/heard it in a class I took in college, it was a small engines class, so it could be true.

You would get much better gas milage with 87 octane gas. In addition, your car will run cooler and put out less emissions on 87. Unless you get a chip, you are throwing your money away. If you need the additives in the 93, get some in a bottle at the auto parts store.

It makes sense. The higher octane gas has less heptane, wich is more volatile. It may have slighly more energy in it. Ideally, your car should be on the verge of pinging all the time. This is when the compression is so much that the fuel is almost at its flash point when the spark plug ignites it. The SVT engine has higher compression, and so requires higer octane, or else it may detonate the fuel prematurely - a bad thing. The regular Duratec, with its lower compression ratio, may benifit from the more volatile compunds in 89 octane gas.

So is that article stating i shouldn't use 93 or 94 octane, only 91 since thats what our car states? I use 92-94 depends on where im at and how much i feel like paying. One time I filled up on 89 and used a bottle of f/I cleaner. Car ran awesome. Don't know why

My friend only runs race gas in his 69 camaro...

but it runs 9's and has 14 to 1 compression

SVT should use AT LEAST 91.. never lower... never..

anything higher than 94 is a waste, IMHO, unless you are HIGHLY modified, etc

You are lucky you got out of Canada fast because the price of gas just went up big time... Instead of your said $0.96Cad/L it's now $105.9/L!!! for 87!!

Oh, and yeah SVT's should use 91 and up.
