Which Contour? The SVT should always be running 91 or better. Everyone else should be running 87 unless you're experiencing pinging/detonation, in which case you should run the lowest octane that eliminates the pinging. Higher octanes do little or nothing for performance or fuel economy unless your engine is specifically tuned for it.

I've used 93.5 once in Iowa, but otherwise I've never seen anything higher than 91 (which is all I use unless it's an emergency, then it's as little as possible of the highest grade they have).

Most places around here have 87-89-93, but I've heard of a few that have 98.

i use 93 all the time. my non SVT doesnt perform badly with the lower octane gases but my family's spare car (S10 Blazer) does. i feel better using the higher octane, plus around here Stop & Shop gives good deals on 93 if you have a card. 87 is fine for your carm but i prefer 93.

How much is that per gallon?
Oh, someone from Canada might know this one, but do they calculate the octane the same as they do here? Cause I got 91 up there over the weekend, but it didn't list the method used [(R+M)/2]. Plus it was expensive... paid $0.96CAD/Liter which I calculated out to be $2.99USD/Gallon... dang, I'm used to paying like $2.40/gal around here.

I always put Premium into my SVT, no questions about it...even if it is $2.55 a gallon
