On the MSDS website, they state that the headers they make for our cars are made of 1.625" (diameter I assume)tubes. What is the diameter of the stock CSVT headers?
For that matter, what is the diameter of the tubes for the stock Y-pipe? MSDS says their y-pipe is made from 2" tubes.

Oops. I just figured out that the stock headers have pre-cats. I swear I did search before posting. Anyway, this is obviously why the stock headers are inferior to the MSDS.
However, about the Y-pipe. What size tubing is used for the stock y-pipe?
I need to make a decision between a stock optimized Y-pipe and a BAT y-pipe with cat. This leades me to my next question. How much better is the cat on the BAT y-pipe vs. the stock cat?

BAT Y-Pipe is better than stock Y-Pipe Optomized stock Y-Pipe is better than BAT Y-Pipe
Inner Diameter tubing are the same. The bat y has different routing of piping, it just goes down and then back. Now the stock optomized still retains the 180 degree bend. Needed for the stock computer configurations. The computer was designed with spark and fuel curves for the 180 bend. If you go bat you will lose gas mileage.
So my choice get a opt Y-Pipe over BAT.

do not buy the BAT y, especially if you are buying headers! EVEN IF the msds y is only slightly worse than the BAT (i dont think there are any proven comparo's saying its better or worse), why waste the extra money? especially when you already have a y-pipe that is better (when optimized) than the BAT y. BAT y's will also void the warranty on your headers.
so to recap, if you are getting or have headers, do not use any other y than the msds or optimized stocker because:
-spend needless money on something that wont net any gains -optimized stock is better -will void header warranty
here is a great idea for spring zing. back to back dyno comparisons of someone with headers using MSDS vs. BAT y pipes. maybe even an optimized stocker too.
hell, we can use my car as long as i am not the one crawling under it to wrench on it.

Does anyone know the size of the opening on the y pipe when it bolts to the stock cat section? I thought it was 3" but apparently trubendz believes it's 2.5". Which is it?
Thanks, Chris

on a 2-bolt(may be diferent on 3-bolt) the y-pipe is med of 2" tubes that flow into a single 2.5".

trubendz also claims that their y-pipes are 2x 2.25" tubes into a 2.5" tube.
If the msds headers and stock manifolds are 2", I wonder why their y-pipe is 2.25".

Could have to do with sound characteristics...mini-resonator chamber, that kind of thing.

2.25 is alittle too much flow for a down pipe. Since u are losing the 180 bend you lose tha tmidrange power, and then an increase in tubing you would really suffer down low and mid. You would probably mainly feel power above 5k. 2 inch is perfect. Many on here that get dual exhaust go 2" from headers back. MHO get you stock optomized!!!
