I did say that I am planning on doing engine upgrades in the future. No I have not done any yet but I have broken the diff in my CSVT and am rebuilding the tranny and figured now was the best time to do anything I might want to have in the future not wanting to have to open it back up again.

If a zetec engine can handle the higher drive ratio I am sure that a duratec can also.

Even if the numbers are only half of the savings that I calculated I am still saving enough to pay for the change in a year, if I was able to get the parts for their original cost.

Well thanks for all of your thoughts. I usually think that my ideas will work no matter what other say. sometimes I am right sometimes I am wrong.

Paul

I went with the ZetecFD to reduce wheel spin due to the increased power and torque from the turbo. It's a nice mod and with it I can totally romp on it in 3rd in the dry and it just hooks up. 1st is still iffy and in 2nd it'll spin them for a little if I'm shifting hard and fast.

Aslo with the mod you can hit 60mph in second which lowers the 0-60 times as the V6 final drive requires a shift into 3rd to hit 60, IIRC.

So its great for if you go 3.0L, but what if i put it in and never get around to doing any serious performance work? (i can get lazy sometimes..LOL) would the new final drive negatively affect performance?

You'd accelerate slower, but in the trade off will have a higher top speed...

...well, that's if you can overcome the drag. So if you can't overcome the 143 drag limit (I can't verify this, so just going from what others have said), then yes, your car will be slightly slower.

The upper drag limit would probably be a little slower due to the taller ratio and same horsepower.

But it does not really matter if you can't get the pinion gear at a reasonable price.
