Which spark plugs should I get for my 2000 SVT? NGK Double Platinums or NGK IX Iridiums. I'm not sure of the differences, or what would be better.

Just run Autolite or Motorcraft double plats. If you must get NGK, get double plats. You need DP plugs in a waste-spark system that fires half the plug in reverse, like ours does.

for 99.9% of the PERFORMANCE benefits of MGK (on an N/A(mildly modified or stock) engine.), and less than half the price, choose Autolite APP764 Double Plats(or Motorcraft equiv.). If your goal is ABSOLUTE performance, sure, go with the NGK's...

For those of us who don't have money to throw away, I would choose Autolites for their performance when weighed against anything, price being included as a factor.

I was wondering which ones to get and this helped my decision alot. I just ahve one thing--Bosch platinum, 2, 4. Any good or just a bunch of talk? I have actually heard that they butn so hot that they fuse to the engine and don't come out. But are they good for preformance?

most people here will tell you they had nothing but bad experiences with the bosch in these cars while others will tell you that they were fine. i say stick with what works unless you want to experiment on your car.

Bosch suck. They may work alright for you, but never as well or as reliably as Motorcraft/Autolite double plats.

Everyone should run Autolite double plats in their Duratec! You may or may not see a difference, either good or bad, with other plugs, but it's not worth a lot more money (NGK, Denso) or a chance they may hurt performance or wear out quickly. Just shell out $24 at any auto parts chain for 6 new plugs!

Originally posted by FAQ:
The Duratec requires double-platinum plugs for proper operation. Single platinum or copper plugs will fire but will wear prematurely. Appropriate stock replacements are Motorcraft AGSF32PP/AGSF32PPM or Autolite APP764 (essentially the same plug). The Motorcraft plugs may be hard to come by in your area; the Autolites are perfect substitutes in that case. Don't forget to set the proper gap on your plugs (.054) even if the manufacturer claims they are pre-gapped.

Note that Bosch +4 or NGK Iridiums are hit-or-miss for many Duratec owners. Some people have reported great performance, while others have experience ignition problems. Other kinds of plugs, like Splitfires, are mostly snake oil and should be avoided altogether.

I have my car apart to clean the intakes and replace a few lines (69k miles). I bought a ste of plugs, but only single plat's. Both the dealer and the auto parts store said they were OEM? They are Auotlite, should I return them and get the double plats? The single were $3.5/ea and thye 2x were like $7/ea (or $8/ea from the dealer).
