OK. Someone help me out with this:

I've created a spreadsheet to try and get the best deal on a MS Miata. I did some reserch to find the dealer holdback allowance and the invoice prices for teh vehicle and the options. Here's the run down...

MSRP = $27,140 (w/ GT Package)
Holdback = $543
Dealer Invoice = $24,951 (w/ GT Package)
SUBTOTAL less Holdback = $24,408

MA Sales Tax @ 5% = $1,220
SUBTOTAL w/ Sales Tax = $25,628

Mazda Incentives/Rebates = $4,000 (Need to confirm this)
Student Discount = $500

GRAND TOTAL = $21,128

Now, I've heard stories of people walking out with the car for less than $20,000, sometimes close to $18,000. I've also been told that the dealer won't give up more than their holdback amount off invoice. Which is true? Do I still have room here to negotiate?

And do I pay sales tax on the subtotal before incentives and rebates or after?

Also, does anyone have a comprehensive list of the Mazda rebates and incentives?

I'd be happy driving off the lot for $20,000 even. How much room do you think I have to shave another grand off the sell price?

And here's a picture to get your juices flowing:

Get in touch with Sigma. He has a dealer in TX that had $7000 off MSRP on the MS Miatas and they might be willing to make a deal...

Was about $20k even before tax, so about what you're wanting to pay.

$18k however, would be highway robbery.

Personally, I'd wait for the new Miata....

Mazda has pulled the listings of their '04 rebates so no luck in getting a rebate list. Looks like you may have to rely on the dealer to tell you the truth, or check some Miata forums to look at the going deals.

And the dealer near me that was advertising them for under $19K no longer is, so I assume that they sold all theirs or I'd give you the number to contact them.

i'll take the number anyway. might be worth a try.

i like the 2006 design as well, but i figure i can make a better deal on an 05 or 04. some dealers near me still have 2004 MS Miata's on the lot.

another dealer quoted me those incentives. without them, i'm out of the running for this car. (won't pass the spouse test)

This is what I'm doing. SKY Redline to be exact. Hopefully my 6'8" body will fit.

According to the Edmunds.com website there are currently no incentives available for the Miata. There is however $750.00 Cash to Dealer on the car.

Get to miata.net. Great forum. I'm a troll over there, as 'contour', and moxnix is there.
