Use a heatshield, either homemade (rubbermaid trashcan) or purchased, if you can grab one..

There aren't what I would call "downsides" other than heatsoak. It is the most common form of intake modification performed on the Duratec. Running without a heatshield will not cause BAD performance, just "sub-par ones", when sitting still.

I can't recall offhand where to GET a MAF-adaptor, but I will be looking, too. Enjoy the newfound power and SOUND you get from an open element.
