Hey everybody, I don't think this has been talked about before but I'm hoping to make speaker boxes (out of aluminum) for a wakeboard tower I'm going to get for my boat this summer. I'm going to model them after the commercially available ones. I have access to free aluminum sheeting.
My reasons for doing this are obvious once you see the prices for the commercial ones. They are basically just a normal speakers in an aluminum case, but priced out of this world.

Here is a link to show you an example:

and another:
I like it when you click me

I don't know if I'd get better sound out of a 6 1/2, 5x7, 6x8, 6x9 and which brand to get.
This is so I can listen to music while I wakeboard.

Thanks in advance,
Sean

Sounds like it may be more work than its worth. Those Ebay ones I think are priced pretty reasonable.
Have you looked into a waterproof MP3 player?? You can get waterproof housings for lots of them on the market today.
A friend of mine uses one of these:

He has it very well secured to the back of his suit and then runs the wire up under the back of the wetsuit. I do the same thing when I'm out hitting the big waves on the PWC.

well the goal is also to get the boat rocking out too. So a waterproof mp3 player won't do. Thanks for the suggestion though.

These Bazookas are great, and are kind of in between prices of what you have posted. They are $349 a pair from Crutchfield:

If you want to go all out, this Infinity is the best system, as it comes with an amp, incredible speaker clarity, and a PA system so you can communicate with your skier, or anyone else on the water. This one is a little pricey, but worth it if you are serious about your sound. It's $1000 from Crutchfield:
