Hi all, fantastic site you have going here. I have been an SVT owner for a little over two weeks, and I love the car. However, I don't love the clunking from the rear. Now, having said that, be easy on me cause I am a newbie. I did replace the rear sway bar with the 21mm BAT version. I used the bushings that came with the bar and reused the factory (read: crappy) brackets on the subframe. I replaced the endlinks at the same time. I knew the clunking wouldn't go away as long as the brackets remained stock, so seeing as how I don't know the first thing about welding new brackets onto the existing subframe, I decided it would be easier to replace the rear subframe with one from ATI (ordered through BAT) that comes with new mounting brackets for the sway bar. I also have the Energy Suspension bushings (the big mama-jama's) that I will be installing. So my question is this: how hard is it to remove the rear subframe? Is there anything I should look out for? Any tricks to make the job easier/quicker? Any help you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated, as I will be tackling this next weekend. I can't wait!! Hopefully no more clunk WOO-HOO!! Thanks enveryone!

Drop the exhaust out of the way. jack the car up and put it on jack stands. Then unbolt the control arms from the rear knuckles. Get a jack under the rear subframe and remove the 4 subframe bolts. Slowly lower the subframe and replace in the reverse order with the new one. You can use a deepwell socket to realign the subframe quite well. Very easy job

Well, I got the new subframe and installed it last night. Not too hard...sprayed the bolts down a few days in advance and most came out pretty easily. Bolted the new one in with the BAT 21mm sway bar and Energy Suspension bushings. Tightened everything, had it aligned, took it for a test drive and....NO MORE CLUNKING!!!! The rear is quiet as a mouse. Now I love the car just that much more. It makes driving so much more pleasurable! Thanks Thinkmoto for the write-up. It was very useful and the job wasn't near as bad as I thought it would be. It is helpful to have two people to reinstall everything.
