I have a 97 SE, and on a recent road trip got about 34mpg, averaged over 750 miles. I've never actually seen mileage that good before on that particular drive, but I think the combination of a new fuel filter, fuel system treatment (some $1.99 / bottle stuff from autozone) and no congestion on the highway added up.
I get the feeling that they may not actually have been inflating the truth that much when the guys at my local Valvoline recommended a fuel treatment to me. Of course, theirs was incredibly marked up...
