Question: Is the way the atx shifts determined somehow by the PCM?

A little background info:

I bought my '96 Mystique ATX Zetec about a month ago. It had a bad VSS, so I basicly drove it home (several miles ) in second gear. The next day I had the VSS replaced and a drain and fill of the trany fluid. Today I would like to drain and fill it again (myself, since the shop wants $65 for something I can do for $15 ) because when it was previously filled it had a burnt odor to it. The fresher the fluid, the better, I say! So I was wondering if clearing the computer's memory will make it relearn shift points or something like that.

Simple answer... yes.

The ECM can only compensate for things relating to the engine managment, not shift points for the ATX or line pressure. The ECM is programmed with preset shift points, under different conditions/variables. It will shift differentally, giving different conditions; such as going up hill, WOT, ect... Resetting the computer though will not cause the ECM to forget how it should shift the ATX.

I would like to note that I used to think other wise, but with alittle more research I learned otherwise.

Thanks for the reply.

Well, whatever it may be, the 'Tique is running a bit nicer now. I pulled fuse #11, drained and filled the tranny fluid (it was still pretty brownish, so a good thing to do), and while I was at it, I put in a new fuel filter.
