Anyway, I've been told by my mom that the Historic Society or whatever it's called there in town has photos of the place from when we lived there. Supposedly it's a historic home in the town, but I haven't investigated how, yet.
BTW, did you know Joe? The cop for Calera that passed a couple years ago? My mom was a friend of his.
I don't know how long you've been involved with the town, but the friend I mentioned that abandoned his home was a reserve officer for Calera a few years back.
In fact, I think another friend - Craig Huddle - was also reserve up until very recently.
I was a reserve from last January to last March. I didn't last very long in that place, the cops and reserve program was as corrupt and incompetant as can be.
The whole west side of that town is going into the sh|tter with all the drugs moving in.
When you say Joe, you mean the old chief, Big Joe? I knew of him, but didn't know that he died. I don't know if you heard about what happened a few years back, with all the cops either being fired or quitting due to the city council being a bunch of know-nothings. They accused Joe of using the town's credit account to buy computers and other things they deemed not necessary (Yeah, why does a police station need working computers newer than 1990 models?) So when a few of them were fired, the rest followed and are currently suing the city for wrongful termination.
Also, one of my teachers is the ex- district attorney for Brian County. She can't say enough about the incompetance of the current Calara P.D. either...
So yeah, that town has really gone down the hole. If they could get a competant city council and some cops that know what they are doing, they might have a chance. With Dallas moving North like it is, Durant has exploded with growth, and even Calera is seeing it's fair share too. There are a couple BBQ restaurants and just recently a Sonic that opened up there.
So no your not missing much, unfortunatly, in the town you grew up in...

A small town like that is usually corrupt. I always expected it was. And yeah, I meant Big Joe, but I may have my details wrong. I know one of the "large" officers was killed or died. You may or may not know the two friends of mine that were reserve there, also. Craig Huddle and Chris Sanders. But this gives me one more thing to do if I go back to visit. I'll try to go in the 'tour and we can meet up and have an ultra-mini-meet

I know Chris Sanders, hes working as a Southeasy Campus cop now. He's a pretty good guy, he was reserving on the sherriff's dept. when I was on Calera.
Big Joe didn't die AFAIK. One of their officers is in jail for kiddie porn charges now, Richard Dillingham.
I'm down for a mini-meet lol. Hell, we might be able to get something together with the Dallas or OKC guys. I have been to some meets in both of those areas. Any idea when you might be back in this part of the country???

No idea really, but since the 'tour should be up and running soon I may decide to make a trip sometime in a couple months.

Wow. I spent $46 filling up my truck on Monday, but that's using regular and about 22 gallons. I haven't had to fill up the SVT for over a month. It's not my daily driver and I'm sure if it was, I'd spend the same in gas since it requires premium.

$41 ain't so bad.
I just spent $35 to fill up my Mazda6 with Regular in one of the cheapest areas in DFW. I'd spend $50 without really giving it a second glance. It's when it costs me over $50 that I might actually begin to adjust my driving habits.
