Well then that's fantastic.

And I'm sure you have your reasons for settling whereever you settle just as people who settle in CA have their reasons.

I'm a "bang for the buck" type of guy, so I guess what I'm trying to get at is that I run into people in CA that have absolutely no concept of life outside that state in terms of lifestyle and financial considerations; Hell, even transplants seem to get sucked into the "location, location, location" mantra and forget that there are other job markets in nice locations that don't put savings and any sort of decent retirement at risk due to out of control living costs.

Renting to reduce the cost of living hit is just as bad if not worse; you are throwing money away in that no equity is being built. I know of people that have done this just to move out to CA to experience the "lifestyle" and have literally thrown away a fair percentage of their home equity they have built elsewhere because they are stuck renting.

It reminds me of a exhorbant cover charge to enter the latest club "du jour"; short stints and an occasional visit could be nice, but trying to capture the magic of the club EVERY night as if you lived there ruins the pocketbook...

Long-term residents I can identify with; many are sitting on VERY valuable property now in CA. Those that are looking to move there now are plain nuts to me, unless they are seeing a HUGE leap in salary.

To put it in perspective, my salary was to be tripled if I moved to the Bay Area and I still couldn't make the numbers work in my favor, given the absolutely insane housing prices alone and considering nothing else (taxes, commute time, additional neighborhood nazi fees, etc., etc.).

Location and weather are wonderul factors when considering a move, but looking at that to the detriment of financial health just doesn't make sense to me, unless one doesn't mind putting their trust in Social Security.

interesting - now where does it mention the fact the diesel fuel in the US is about 9 times dirtier than the diesel in Europe? Where does it mention that the diesels in europe dont have to have cats because they burn cleaner because of cleaner fuel? Where does it mention that none of the Diesels in europe of the latest generation make it to the states because they wont work with our crappy diesel? (the VAG motors are the exception - but the dont have the newest and best models here either) Where does it mention that diesel vuel costs significantly less to refine and produce than gasoline, yet in the subsidized US market it is artificially inflated to make money off of over-the-road drivers, while gasoline is artificially kept low.

Facts may be facts - but watch who says them.

AMEN!!

(even though I think the current head of the EPA is an ASS!)

I can understand the financial aspect. But I am making great money and going to school, so buying a house isn't a priority right now as I am probably going to be moving for law school. So for me it works and I love it.

I really don't care where people are from, I've lived in almost every State in the Union at some point or another, and if there's one thing I've noticed it's that people from California are not only bashed more often but themselves proclaim some sort of superiority more often than any other group. One can only assume that they two are tied together. And in the irony of ironies even your very own post is full of arrogance back-handed 'bashing'.

That's just stupid.

It's not like this is 1850 here and people are stuck wherever they were born. People can move anywhere they want, within CONUS at least, on a relative whim. If people thought California was hot-[censored], they'd move there -- and a lot of people do.

Everytime anything about Cali. comes up you start bashing like crazy. Why? Envious?

So I guess people who don't like California/ns are just jealous of you/what you have? I mean, no one could ever have legitimate complaints about California could they?!

So you're better than everyone else because you make more money, dollar-for-dollar wise?

The economy is so different you might as well be measuring your income in Japanese Yen. It's about the same as "California Dollars". Lord knows it's a big enough economy to pull it off.

and the women are out of this world beautifull.

So the rest of us are just left with the scraps that LA tosses aside, or what?

Come on. No area has any more or less beautiful women than any other area. I've travelled this nation coast to coast, border to border, and I've yet to find any big enclave of beauty anywhere. With 20 million people you're gonna have more hot ones than a city with 2 million, yes. But you're gonna have ten times as many BUTT-UGLY ones too.

Also just about everyone I know and have talked to in L.A. says that they love it and would never leave.

Okay... But your sample is a group of people that live in LA!!. Of course they're gonna like it there - they live there. If I ask a bunch of people around here who lived there whether they like it, I'd imagine most would say they didn't, which is why they're not living there anymore.

If I took your statement, and changed it around to apply to some other area, like Houston, maybe you could see what I mean....

As far as the Texas bashing, just let it go AKSSVT. Everytime anything about Texas comes up you start bashing like crazy. Why? Envious? I don't know why but it is rather childish. I love Texas. I have twice as much disposable income as someone into another city, I can walk to some of the best clubs in Houston from my apartment, I can be at world-famous beaches, casinos, and Mardi Gras within an hour, and our women are out of this world beautifull. Oh yeah it is about 92 and not a cloud in the sky right now. I do have to brave 55-60 deg. winters though.LOL. Also just about everyone I know and have talked to in Houston says that they love it and would never leave.

you just TRY to see Texas in two weeks..
Hell.. start in Austin.. drive ANY DIRECTION YOU WANT for 5 hours... Where will you be?

TEXAS..

try making it across the state.. any direction you wanna take.. N-S, E-W, whatever.. in one day..

SOOO many cities, so much diversity from each city, and nothing like the last one you were in.. like I said.. we can offer the same things that CA can offer.. Mountains, lakes, rivers, hills, small town hospitality, bustling metropolis, caverns, tourism, and agriculture... isn't that everything on that "why CA" is great list?

1. I was responding to PackRats constant Cali. bashing. With a light hearted jab.

2. So.. me stating that I can make more here than other places is arrogant? No it is simply a fact that I have researched. I also don't see how that makes me come off as superior. I know it costs more to live here. Now where did I state or even hint that I thought I was superior.

3. Nope I just stated that I see a lot of beautiful women out here. Where did I say that everywhere else was left with the scraps. Again it is a observation. Nowhere did I compare them to other places. Also I never said there wasn't ugly-ass women out here. Believe there are.

4. Again just stating the opinion of my self and people I know.

5. Sure you take my statement and twist it around but the fact is I never bashed any other cities or states now did I? Same can't be said for other people here.

It amazes me that you would read that deeply into a few observations that I made. I don't see where I HAVE STATED ANYWHERE that I was or felt superior to anyone. So please spare me Psychology 101.
