I think its pretty evident with the amount of people in California that there are other reasons (tangible/intangible) for wanting to live there.
NY's pretty expensive too but its one of the largest cities in the US.
Taking me for example, I plan on living in NYC and in CA for at least a few years out of my life. Not knocking TX, but you I don't see the allure of Dallas.
You are aware that I'm living in KS and that I've lived in other States as well as overseas, right?
