Do you really think that's mostly what you're paying for with your greatly heightned gas prices? Is that the crap that they feed you there so you accept what you have to pay? I sincerely hope that you don't believe the difference you pay is largely because of some sort of "special fuels" that you have to use.

The Average Price per Gallon in California this week is $2.46 -- Highest in the Nation. The Average Price per Gallon in South Carolina is $2.11 -- Lowest in the Nation. A difference of 35 cents.

Total tax (federal and all applicable state taxes) for gas in California is 54 cents, plus 1-4% more (3-10 cents) for local tax. South Carolina is only 35.2 cents total with no applicable local tax (although a few cities may choose to tax it).

That's a difference of 21-29 cents/gallon in taxes. That's mostly what you're paying for. Yes, there is some additional price for burning cleaner fuels, but that isn't even close to the majority of what you're paying for with the added cost.
