A lot of people don't know that when they buy their "American" cars like Foci, Escorts and Cavaliers, they are paying the wages of the Mexicans who built their cars. If they were to buy Civics or Corollas, they would be paying the wages of the American auto workers who built these cars.
Looked at the domestic (USA) content sticker on a small car lately? The Corolla and Civic both had a higher domestic (USA) parts content than a Focus or Cavalier last time I checked. I know many people who work at manufacturing plants for companies that supply parts to Toyota and Honda right here in Ohio. Toyota and Honda both like American built parts for their American built cars, and they try really hard to get them. They even go as far as helping companies modernize their facilities so they can produce quality parts here. Last time I checked, Ford didn't go to such great lengths to have domestically made parts on the Focus.
So, at least in the small car category, buying a Honda or Toyota does support American workers and American small business.
