Hitman, I dont know why this forum has its panties in a wad
Thats a nice car. I like Cavaliers I OWN a 1996 Cavalier with 132,000 miles on the OD and the only problem that ever devloped is that the A/C Compressor died at 112,00 and that I accidentally knocked the Temp reader in the engine bay off (dont do that it makes it run bad)
Good choice and good luck my friend, My family has said for years If you take care of it, it will take care of you.

Totally agree.
I don't understand this "Yugo of american cars". My previous car was a Corsica V6 and if anything THAT was a bigger shitbox than the late model Cavaliers but it lasted forever. It wasn't until 180k km's that stuff started to go wrong (wiring, radio died, rad died, suspension bottomed out, transmission on its way out, muffler fell apart haha, etc).
I didn't even keep up with regular maintenance apart from oil changes (don't think the transmission was ever flushed on a regular basis) and I never had a problem with the fuel pump, or fear of drying the engine out on a right hand turn, or had the car erratically drop revs. GM's are slow, boaty cars with backwards technology but their engines are [censored] bulletproof for the most part.

By all means, don't take my word for it:

http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/Reliability.aspx?modelid=575&src=vip
http://www.consumerreports.org/main/detailv2.jsp?CONTENT<>cnt_id=575861
FYI, the only models in the '90s that were worse in reliability were the S-10 and the Astro van, which were both rolling pieces of junk. '00+ models weren't much better; jury is still out on the newer ones since not enough data has been collected.
Let me put it this way; a Cavalier is the ONLY rental car that's ever stranded me in a decade of driving rentals on business trips. I was told by the folks at the Avis counter to think about renting something else, as they have had numerous issues with Cavs.
I wouldn't say a Contour is a shining example of reliability, but they never stranded me or gave me problems when renting and apart from a few "fit and finish" issues, I can't complain about the SVT too much.
FWIW, DOHC engines were around in the early 1900's, so claming pushrod technology as "backward" is quite ignorant...

Got $1200 for the Contour which was fine.
So long CEG it was fun while it lasted I'm done now, and I just started with car problems.

Whenever I see a Cav I wonder.... who would buy one of those? I mean its one thing to get your parent's beater Cav when you are 16.. but to seek one out.. and purchase it nearly new?? I would go for one of these over a Cav ......................

Nice comeback. But for starters, there's no H in Duratec. And you've spent how long here? -SAV
