I'm pretty sure the newer base models come like that ? The facelift change added some body cladding to move more units.
I really don't understand this site's hate-on for Cavaliers ...
And I'm still not sure why people get an auto 4cyl. That's just stupid. Learn to drive stick guys, those 4pots really need it, especially with GM's [censored] auto trannies.

Since this is a Hitman thread, I'll discuss how my day went. I woke up around 1 or so and ate some Life cereal. It was just this side of fantastic. Nice mug of chocolate milk to complement it. I was kinda bummed when my girlfriend was going on and on about how tired she was. We didn't get to watch House M.D. tonight like I had wanted. Damn it. I spent the rest of the evening bummed until now, when I saw this thread... OK OK...SERIOUSLY... I guess I should respect you, Hitman. I mean, you got a new car now and stuff. A Cavalier at that. Too bad it will rattle more than the beds at a Super 8 Motel after a pack of teens bent on orgy have their way, probably before you've had the chance to take off all the shrink wrap. And my Sedona will spank the Elmer's glued on spoiler right off that lid, while holding six chicks on my way to Key West. I know. I said I should respect you. But I never do what I should. -SAV

Dude, if you think you're "done with car problems" you've got another thing coming. You just bought the single most unreliable car produced today.
The good news is you won't have to worry about the warranty running out. Chances are the car will never last that long.

My God the hate runs deep in these forums. A bunch of stand up guys and I've actually seen one guy bragging about driving MOM's Kia minivan I don't know about any of you guys but I'd much rather have a Cavalier than a Kia. Hitman! Congrats on the new car, it being a 2004, I'm sure GM has fixed 98% of the major issues that require this thing to go into the shop. Expect your normal crap build quality as it is an American car but I would expect minimal issues for the next 3-5yrs if you take good care of it.

Oooo-kayyyyy
I, personally, would rather have a KIA.. build quality is superior, warranty is superior, and pricing new is superior. (6,250 out the door, new, w/ a 10/100) high crash-test ratings, and good resale.
fair-to-excellent gas mileage depending on which model you get..
previous years left something to be desired, but like Hyundai, they have DRAMATICALLY improved their quality and reputation.
I wished him luck on his new purchase. any car CAN be good.. as well as any car becoming a POS money-trap.. its "mostly" in the driver/maintenance..
"You can lead a horse to water...", comes to mind in the instance of this threads topic.

Can't beat 10/100. You just can't. I plan on upgrading to something else before I rack up 100,000 miles, so I think I'm playing it pretty safe.
Kia has done as much in the way of making headway on the market as the Hyundai Motor Company that owns them. The Sonata and Optima share the same 2.7L V6 and pretty damn good Infinity sound system, along with heated leather seats, a woodgrain and leather steering wheel and projector head/foglights. And I guess I'm the only crazy in the entire freaking world that finds the Spectra5 a pretty damn entertaining car for the money. I'm biding my time now, actually, until I can roll a red one with the 5-speed and sunroof.
Or my alternative is to roll a rattletrap Cavalier that rides as if the suspension were welded directly to the frame that traces its lineage to a time before I was even born. The choice to me is rather obvious.
