Yes, us morons who only have an undergraduate degree.

Typical upper-crust attitude. I'm sure the fact that family members graduating from the school didn't hurt your chances of acceptance. It's part of how the rich help each other stay rich. I guess they don't teach sociology in those elite schools.

Also, JaTo, I like your perspective.

I guess they do teach bitterness at regular schools...

I was excepted to NIU and WIU cause those were the only two schools I applied too.
That is mainly because I didn't want to pay a lot for an education you can get at any college. I wouldn't start out any letter to a college with "I have a lot of Money." You also sound depressed in your letter. Are you ok?

Don't stress out about the ivy league stuff. Find a good program, and network like hell once you are in. Look for a good non-profit to get involved in. Their Board's tend to have lots of important community people that you can network with, and these people can really help you out. Go to school in an area you are interested in working at. I'd rather go to a lower ranked(but still ranked well)school in the area I plan to be in. Ivy's are great, but a good school with great networking connections is better.

FWIW, I have a few Ivy League grads working under me currently and have had a few in the past at other jobs...

...and I'm a marginally educated redneck (well, recovering redneck) with nothing more than a BBA in business from OU. Two of them in particular think they should be running the company 2 years out of their programs, despite the fact that they have NO real-world experience in a corporate environment. As it stands, I trust them to do their jobs well, but I wouldn't put them in charge of a gumball machine at this point.

High-dollar educations are only worth the level of effort put forth with them. Yes, they can open doors that rountinely can't be opened any other way, but they don't KEEP you in the door if you don't possess a number of other qualities. I'll take a hard-working and sharp B-school MBA grad over a pompous, arrogant Ivy League type any day of the damn year, unless the political/social environment the chap will be working in demands otherwise.

Don't think that just because you possess a piece of paper that has a big pricetag and lots of prestige tied to it's name will let you go places in and of itself. It absolutely gives you a bloody nice leg up on the ladder, but it won't give you staying power by itself.

If you want to impress a CEO or an interviewer on an education, inform them that after careful financial consideration, you chased after the highest quality program given the financial resources available to you at the time.

Drive a Honda.

Well sir on that note we have a slot eady ad waiting for you. Just remember this phrase "Would you like an order or bread sticks or 2 litre of pop with that." And, enjoy having a lighted sign on top of your car.

LOL!

Andy W. The problem with America is stupidity. I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?

I know 2 TBird grads. Great program if you can get in. The return on investment isn't as high as many other high quality programs and it is a bit smaller.

Wharton is a "write your own ticket' opportunity.

If work will pay for it, I'm considering MSU for the '06-'08 session.

Make sure you tell them about how you like to encourage minors to take prescription drugs and alcohol to stay awake. That might help.

I'm keeping that in my hip pocket, just in case.

Thanks to everyone for all the replies. I have a few years to figure this out and talk to people. I'm trying to get as much of a head start as I can.

If anyone has more advice, please post it up. I want to be as informed as I can.
